AMHA-USA - Power of Seven

and the Possibilities of Community

Print AMHA-USA Membership Applications

AMHA is an organizational structure, designed and maintained by volunteers. It is a way to join together and accomplish things that we imagine, want and yet could not do alone. Everything that AMHA offers exists because members have had a vision and made it manifest.

AMHA is a community of therapists run and maintained by therapists. The national organization has a number of opportunities to offer national members, and opportunities increase when local organizations develop. Local organizations can make local decisions about what is wanted or needed to support members’ practices.

In California and in Oregon, local AMHA chapters have organized continuing education events, have frequent networking meetings, and share list serves where therapists trade information, look for referrals, rent office space, etc. In Oregon, the local chapter has also developed print directories which advertise members’ practices; pays Google to increase the visibility of members’ webpages; has developed a petition which focuses on the right of therapists to not keep records when the therapist and client agree that not keeping records is reasonable; this petition can serve as the basis for establishing a respectable minority in related legal issues.

In order to support the development of local organizations, AMHA invites you to join with six or more colleagues to form the beginning of a local community. The number seven has often marked completion – the seven days of the week, the seven deadly sins, the seven virtues.

Seven may also serve as a solid beginning for an organization; it is a large enough group to ensure a variety of voices and perspectives and to support a pooling of energy and of shared decision making and action; it is a small enough number to allow everyone to be heard and acknowledged. While seven members is not a final goal, it may be a good beginning.

AMHA national would like to help such nascent groups by providing a membership discount and by working with small local groups to develop local goals and initiatives.

Instead of the customary (and extremely cheap) annual membership dues of $150.00, individuals who join at the same time as six (or more) colleagues will pay only $120 for the first year. Furthermore, national officers will help you develop a local marketing strategy.

AMHA has worked elsewhere, it can work for you. Join AMHA-USA as we create organizational structures to support community, successful and ethical practice, and professional independence.
